In a stunning upset, Clermont Foot 63 defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 in the final match of the Ligue 1 season on Sunday, June 4, 2023. The visitors came back from a two-goal deficit to shock the champions at Parc des Princes and spoil Lionel Messi's farewell.

PSG took an early lead through Sergio Ramos, who scored his first and only goal for the club with a header from Vitinha's cross in the 16th minute. Kylian Mbappe doubled the advantage five minutes later from the penalty spot after Achraf Hakimi was brought down by #Alidu Seidu.

However, Clermont did not give up and reduced the gap in the 28th minute when Johan Gastien capitalized on a mistake by Marco Verratti, who played a back pass to Gianluigi Donnarumma that was intercepted by the midfielder. Gastien had a chance to equalize from another penalty in the 38th minute, but he dragged his shot wide.

Clermont did not have to wait long for their second goal, though, as Medhi Zeffane scored in the 43rd minute after Donnarumma parried a cross into his path. The teams went into the break level at 2-2, with PSG stunned by Clermont's resilience.

The second half was more balanced, with both sides creating chances to take the lead. Messi, who was playing his last game for PSG before leaving for New York City FC, missed a golden opportunity in the 55th minute when he blazed over from Mbappe's pass. Clermont made him pay for his miss in the 63rd minute when Grejohn Kyei completed the comeback with a close-range finish from Elbasan Rashani's cross.

PSG tried to salvage a point in the final minutes, but Clermont defended well and denied Messi a farewell goal. The Argentine star had a free kick in stoppage time, but it was saved by Mory Diaw. The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among the Clermont players and fans, who had witnessed one of the biggest shocks in Ligue 1 history.

Clermont ended their remarkable season in eighth place with 59 points, while PSG finished as champions with 85 points, just one ahead of Lens. Messi left PSG with 16 goals and 12 assists in 29 appearances, but he could not add another trophy to his illustrious career.
